Just two years earlier, Citroen had introduced the XM, which fulfilled much of what was expected after a CX. And already there some grumbled. Born as Project N2, #Bertone, among others, was involved in the development of the ZX, and delivered quite interesting designs. But #Citroen wanted to play it safe in the #Golf class. And so the GS did not get a flamboyant successor with a crazy cockpit, but Citroen went the “AX-way”. But let’s take a look at the benchmark from Wolfsburg.

The Golf MKIII, which was also introduced in 1991, lacked all the elegance of the ZX. And when I look at the ZX today, especially the three-door model, it looks amazingly elegant. It looks elongated and offered the most space in its class in terms of length. And while most of the Golf MKIIIs are slowly rusting away, the ZX benefits from partial galvanisation – but most of them have disappeared anyway. So let’s ask the following question: Is it a future classic?
